This is my shrine to everything food and food positivity. This is important to me for three reasons; I have a passion and skill in cooking since I was a child, my love language is giving food to people I believe it is the best thing you can share in the world, and my spouse lives with an eating disorder so I work hard to show him positivity and encouragement and make food fun and happy. This shrine will be constantly updated as this is something my passion will never die for.
I have a good youtube playlist of food things over at my video recs
My Tips For EDs
- Something I do often is that I will make food fun or cute and you can do it anyway that makes it nice for you but most commonly I will present foods with smiley faces on them made out of the food or toppings and my spouse says he loves it and it does make me happy too!
- Use cute or fancy dishes always dont save them for special occassions if it makes you feel good it may be what can push you to eat
- Snacks are more important than you think and there are no bad snacks unless you are allergic because what you eat in a day may or may not meet what your body needs to survive healthily so if you feel hungry, eat, your body knows what it needs and spends every day doing nothing but wanting to keep you alive
- The colors yellow and orange encourage hunger and that is why they are so common in food marketing especially fast food. And this is relevant because I bought a lot of cute yellow dishes to serve my spouse food on his hard days. It makes food look displayed nicely against the colors and psychologically is promoting your hunger. This is a good thing and can help you get down a meal and maybe more of it than you would have otherwise.
- When you are obsessing over something to do with what to eat or not eat I want you to remember two things; almost everything you caneat has something in it thats good for you! Ice cream helps digestion especially right after a meal and is a good way to get calcium if you dont like milk for example. Look at all that makes up a food and look at the ingredients benefits. It helps
And those two things that society has driven that you must not consume, sodium and sugars, aren't evil. You need a certain amount of both to be healthy. Sugars being low can effect your health and reap all your energy. Sodium levels being low can cause dehydration and such a plethora of terrible symptoms. Because your body needs and deserves these things. So don't eradicate them unless you medically must for a disorder. Otherwise you will be making yourself sicker and unhealthier than any alternative.
- Something I notice helps my fiance is watching food videos shockingly. We watch a channel of a couple who show foods from locations, vending machines, parks, restaurants, street food, etc. (The channel is DancingBacons) and seeing all of it ignites a kind of passion in him to eat that I can scarcely believe! So perhaps watching food videos can be a positive impact on certain EDs depending on the individual of course.
- If your reservation lies with eating meats out of fear of it being raw heres a few suggestion. Get precooked meat from the deli its covered by stamps if its cold and theres precooked meat in the freezer section too. Try vegan meats if you can afford them and/or other alternatives like tofu. Eating meat is good for you so if you can eat some please do!
